Varun Tej made his debut with Mukunda which was commercial mismatch. It didn’t satisfy anyone critically neither did it do anything special commercially. The openings however suggested that Mega fans were clearly looking at him to make an impact.
Now, one would hope that after such a debut the actor would learn his lesson but with Kanche it looks like the actor is going to travel that path and make his life as a star difficult. It’s difficult because it’s hard to pull off such films. One just needs to look at the career of Rana Daggubati as a solo hero to get an idea. But then Rana has other plans as he clearly isn’t bothered to play merely a lead. Does Varun Tej have that clarity? From the choices it doesn’t look to be the case.
This clearly leads to a problem. One has to have a fixed path to build a narrative as an actor. A switch between different sort of films is very hard to pull off, especially in early years. Looking at the careers of other heroes from Mega family itself could give an idea for Varun Tej. We had in the past written how Sai Dharam Tej has clarity on what he needs to do.
Here’s hoping that the upcoming two films Kanche and Loafer, two contrasting films, give Varun Tej the clarity on which way to go forward. Otherwise few more setbacks like Mukunda could hurt his career big time, than he would be expecting.
