Strength
*Legacy is a huge asset in cinema , which is why so many films in this genre , likePedarayudu , have turned out to be big hits. The other side of legacy is to do with real life, wherein the progeny of stars big and small enter tinsel town. Generations of fans have traditionally given the second and third generation stars an even chance. Riding on this strength is Shryean Kapoor, son of popular yesteryear heroine Jayasudha, who is debuting as hero in this film. Fans would be eager to know if he is a chip of the old block, in front of camera.
* Basthi is said to be a love story, and the challenges the young couple faces, caught between two gangs in a perpetual conflict. Young lovers in cinema are like the race horse a nose away from the finish line, with everyone screaming, go, go, go,’ ; everyone loves a happy ending that comes with a bit of trouble here and a fight there.
*Heroine is Pragathi, but familiar faces like Kota Srinivasa Rao, Saptagiri and Mukesh are also in the fray.
*Pravin Ummadi has done a fairly decent job with the music and at least three of the numbers are hummable.
Weakness
*It is director Vasu Manthena’s debut movie and while he has said he has been writing scripts from the time he could hold a pencil in hand, he will be on trial here.
*The film’s trailer released very recently , leaving fans with very little time window to get used to the film.
Opportunity
*Good love stories need a good narration and if the director stays on track, he would have arrived with his very first film.
*While family dramas and action films have done well in the recent past, we have not had a good, Telugu original romantic film rocking the box office. Every new release has the potential to turn out to be a sleeper hit, but it usually happens more in the romantic genre.
Threat
*A direct threat is another film, boasting a comparatively better known star cast.
