Mantra 2 Movie Review
Charmi who has done a handful of horror/thriller films in the past has come up with a sequel to successful Mantra. She has been waiting to get back on track with this film but Mantra 2 doesn't offer enough chills and thrills to survive at the ticket windows.
What is it about?
Mantra (Charmi) is transferred to Hyderabad and stays as a paying guest in an old couple's house. Mantra seeks the help of a friend Vijay (Chetan) when she realizes that a person is trying to kill her. Why is he trying to kill her? Vijay tries to unfold the secret and comes to know about startling facts.
Performances:
Charmi's glamour is an asset to the film. She did well within the limitations. Chetan is competent and confident. Rahul Dev appeared in a brief role. Tanikella Bharani, Uttej and the TV crew are alright in their respective roles.
Technicalities:
Director Sateesh failed to write a proper script for this film that has an interesting premise. There are some genuinely scary moments in the second half but the film fails to provide edge of the seat thrilling experience due to bad direction and writing. Music is too loud. Cinematography is good compared to rest of the technical output. Editing is poor. Production values are fine.
Thumbs Up:
Charmi
Thumbs Down:
Screenplay
Direction
Analysis:
Mantra 2 is a poorly made horror film that appears pointless during the first half. Things get better in the second half when the lead pair and few others get trapped in the haunted house. Director throws in few more twists to make it even more exciting but the ending is terribly messed up.
Everything looks silly and unbelievable once the back story is revealed. Mantra 2 could have been way better had they came up with a tight screenplay. First half is a bore fest with the stalker waiting for his chance to kill Charmi. There are so many stupid scenes that will make you cringe.
There is ample scope for jump scares and thrilling moments in the second half, but Mantra 2 hardly delivered any. Barring a few scary moments Mantra 2 is utterly boring to watch. You could simply opt to watch the first part on DVD rather than seeing this on big screen. Choice is yours.
